Der weitere Anstieg des Gebirges schloss nach und nach große Wassermengen ein, die nicht in die Ozeane abfließen konnten. So entstanden riesige Feuchtgebiete, die zur Heimat zahlreicher Reptilien und Weichtiere wurden.
